Goog11e

googlle

First I thought it was a mistake, but than i realized that it has been 11 years since Google was created. Yes today is the birthday of our favorite search engine called Google. Lets say something about Google:

Google began in January 1996, as a research project by Larry Page, who was soon joined by Sergey Brin.
Google was officially created in September 27. 1998 in a garage of its founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Google was a project
at the Stanford University.
Google employs
19,786 people (information from March 31, 2009)
Google was voted #1 Best Place to Work by Fortune Magazine
Googles moto is Dont be evil.
Since 2001, Google has acquired several companies.
In 2004, Google acquired a company called Keyhole, Inc.,[44] which developed a product called Earth Viewer, renamed in 2005 to Google Earth.
In February 2006, software company Adaptive Path sold Measure Map, a weblog statistics application, to Google.
In late 2006, Google bought the online video site YouTube for $1.65 billion in stock.
On 13 April 2007, Google reached an agreement to acquire DoubleClick. Google agreed to buy the company for $3.1 billion.
On 2 July 2007, Google purchased GrandCentral. Google agreed to buy the company for $50 million.
On 9 July 2007, Google announced that it had signed a definitive agreement to acquire enterprise messaging security and compliance company Postini.
On August 5 2009, Google announced the purchase of video software maker On2 Technologies for $106.5 million – its first acquisition of a public company.

For the 2006 fiscal year, the company reported $10.492 billion in total advertising revenues and only $112 million in licensing and other revenues.

Google AdWords allows Web advertisers to display advertisements in Google’s search results and the Google Content Network, through either a cost-per-click or cost-per-view scheme. Google AdSense website owners can also display adverts on their own site, and earn money every time ads are clicked.

Google has free mail service called Gmail. It was launched on April 1, 2004. Every Gmail users gets 7GB of free email storage.

Google name $32 billion

In a year that saw automakers, banks and insurance companies implode and beg for billions in taxpayer assistance, technology companies like Google, IBM and Amazon managed to improve the value of their brands by billions of dollars.

According to rankings released this week from a survey by BusinessWeek and Interbrand, a New York-based brand consultancy, Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) made the biggest strides this year — the value of its brand soared up 25 percent to an estimated $32 billion, placing its No. 7 on the global top 10.

IBM (NYSE: IBM), which benefits from being the oldest technology company on the list, inched up 2 percent this year, to No. 2 overall behind Coca-Cola with a brand value of $60.2 billion. Microsoft’s (NASDAQ: MSFT) brand lost about 4 percent of its value, slipping to $56.6 billion. Intel and Oracle lost 2 percent and 1 percent of their value, falling to $30.6 billion and $13.9 billion, respectively.

For the time in survey history, the top 100 global brands actually lost value, shedding 4.6 percent, or $55.72 billion, in brand value. In fact, perennial top 100 companies including Merrill Lynch (No. 34 in 2008) and ING (No. 86) fell off the list altogether. Apparently relying on taxpayer billions to survive may not be the best way to build a brand.

“Not surprisingly, big banks and auto brands fared the worst, while food brands benefited as consumers began eating more at home,” researchers said in the report. “The recession has presented brand stewards with the most severe test of their careers. Companies have had to adjust rapidly as consumers reexamine their purchases and rethink brand loyalty.

For the ninth year in a row, Coca-Cola topped the list of global brands, gaining 2 percent in value to more than $68.7 billion.

Google’s “Do No Evil” motto and aggressive marketing campaigns and IBM’s patent-collecting prowess were cited as reasons for both companies’ brand success. Amazon checked in at No. 43 at $7.8 billion while eBay and Yahoo ranked No. 46 and No. 64, respectively.

The brutal economy punished automakers and banks the most, according to the survey. UBS fell 31 places to No. 72 and lost more than half of its brand value in 2008. General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Group didn’t even make the top 100 list.

IPv6

mainPioneer in the field of Internet, Vinton Cerf, has suggested again to move on to the IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6). One of the creators of TCP/IP protocols said that there wont be any IPv4 addresses available by the end of next year, or if get lucky in the early 2011.

Cerf said that it is time to start using new IPv6 protocols, even if the business users say that there is no economical advantages of using IPv6.

Superspeed USB compliance standard launched

SUPERSPEED USB or USB 3.0 as it is more commonly known, is coming a little closer to reality with the launch of the first certification and compliance program launched by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF).

The non-profit organisation – which is made up of representatives of some of the biggest tech outfits on the planet including Microsft, HP, Intel and Texas Instruments – rigorously tests hardware to ensure that it complies with the full USB 3.0 specification. Then, and only then, can that hardware proudly wear the official Superspeed logo. Unless of course your device has been made in a Chinese sweatshop by an 11-year-old. In which case you can just get some logo labels printed up yourself and bang them on.

A whole raft of tests developed by the USB Platform Interoperability Lab (PIL) will make sure that devices are capable of achieving data transfer speeds of up to 5Gb per second and playing nice with their ten times slower cousins, the slack-jawed USB 2.0 yokels.

Digital video is the driving force behind USB 3.0 with the abilty to quickly copy and store massive High Definition files leading to the need for faster data transfer abilties.

The new standard, which uses the same connectors as previous iterations, also feature Sync-n-Go technology, which apparently reduces user waiting time, and optimised power efficiency which eradicates the need for device polling and leads to reduced power suckage for both idle and active devices. Which is good news for anyone looking to buy a battery-powered USB 3.0 device.

Although the platform guarantees backward compatibilty with high speed USB 2.0 kit, it remains to be seen whether 1.0 devices will continue to be supported and, from what we can ascertain, the USB-IF has expressed no intention of guaranteeing any level of support.

The Universal Serial Bus is the most succesful interface in computing history and has become the de facto standard throughout the tech industry thanks to its reliabilty, simplicity and easy implimentation. It’s reckoned that close to 3 billion USB-toting devices were shipped in 2008 alone. Anyone old enough to remember SCSI – yes, that really was pronounced ’scuzzy’ – will not miss individually numbered ports, terminators and cables the width and rigidity of a fat man’s thumb.

Gadgets and gizmos featuring Superspeed USB should be appearing around Christmas time so don’t forget to add one to your list.

Pirate Bay ISP Victim of Sabotage After Shutdown

mainBlack Internet, the ISP that on Monday turned off the access to file-sharing site The Pirate Bay, says it has become the victim of sabotage. The damage is substantial, according to CEO Victor Möller.

Customers that get their Internet access from Black Internet were experiencing outages on Tuesday morning. The reason was sabotage against its infrastructure, according to the ISP.

On Friday, a verdict in the Stockholm district court prompted Black Internet to shut down access to The Pirate Bay. The verdict reached Black Internet on Monday, and it decided to immediately comply. Only a few hours later it became the victim of sabotage, it said.

The sabotage has been intentional, according to Mller.

“Our network isn’t working as it should. We are working with the police and technicians to find out what has happened,” said Möller.

He doesn’t want to elaborate on details of the sabotage or from where it might have originated.

Mller also underscores that the link between Black Internet shutting down The Pirate Bay and the attack is far from certain.

Is there anything that implies that this is an act of vengeance? “Nothing more than the fact that we were hit six hours after we shut down the connection,” said Mller.

All Customers Affected

All of Black Internet’s customers were affected by the disruption. Part of the network was up and running on Tuesday morning, and more parts were being turned on continually. Several of Black Internet’s customers resell access, so it’s difficult to gauge how many people have been affected.

“It’s a giant pyramid and we are dealing with substantial damages and large sums,” said Mller.

Per Wedin, CEO at One Call Support, one of the victims of the sabotage, had received information about the sabotage when Computer Sweden reached him on Tuesday, but the connection wasn’t up yet. If it doesn’t get resolved shortly the company will have to look for another supplier, he said. “We are talking about millions of Swedish kronor,” he said.

The Pirate Bay site was up again on Monday with the help of a new ISP, according to Peter Sunde, the former spokesman for The Pirate Bay and one of the main men behind the site, so the outage resulting from Black Internet’s disconnection only lasted for a few hours.

The reason that many users still aren’t able to access The Pirate Bay is “because your ISP has a sucky DNS. Use OpenDNS instead,” Sunde said in a Twitter message on Monday. “Also, TPB has issues for some people because of old routes. It will fix itself,” he later added.
